NATIONAL SERVICE AT HOME.

COMPULSION- IF NECESSARY. STATEAIENT BY AIP,. HENDERSON. Australian and N.Z. Cablo A&tn. (Received Eeb. 16, 10.10 p.m.) LONDON. Feb. 16 Tn the House of Commons, replying to questions by Labor members as to how many men were expected to enrol under Mr. Chamberlain’s scheme before it would be considered a success, and the possibility, in the event of its failure, of a large measure of industrial compulsion. Air. Henderson said the speakers' seemed not to realise the fact that we were at war. If compulsion were necessary in order to win the war, he would take every means to get a release from bin pledge, given to the representatives of the great trades unions. For iho present he believed there would bo plenty of willing volunteers for useful services at 25s weekly.
