WOMEN TEACHERS.
A QUESTION OF HEALTH. (Press Association Telegram.) ACTOK LAND, Feb. 14. The Board of Education to-day referred to the Council of Education a report by Dr. Elizabeth MacDonald in regard to the causes of absences from dutv of female teachers, especially pupil teachers. The report referred to the long hours spent in study by the pupil teachers, resulting in irregularitv of ' meals and curtaded hours of sleep. , Referring to- the frequent oreakdo'tVii of assistant teachers, the doctor stated that the causes lay in too large classes, overcrowding, working conditions, and the difficulty of country teachers getting reasonably good homes. The doctor said the improved health and happiness of teachers would not be gained until the classes were reduced to forty pupds for one teacher. Many women got nervous exhaustion by devotion to a false standard of efficiency. inure was too much working for external results too much pressure for examination’s and too little scope for originality and individuality.
