Goldfinch’s license was not discussed by the District Committee at Auckland at their meeting on Thursday, and it will be another month before the matter will come before them again. Despite the fact that a stipendiary steward was present some of the riders at the recent local meetings took some great risks. The leading horseman C. Emerson has been suspended for two months. -This will give his nearest rival, J ■ O’Shea an opportunity to get in the lead. The latter has ridden twelve winners within a fortnight, including three cups. D. Maher, the famous jockey, who died in England recently, left property to the value of £5933 6s lid, the net personality being £4958 Is 7d. Maher left the whole of his property to his wife.

Stewart Howard, who holds a gentleman rider’s license, had his first rides at the recent meetings. This lad attends the course regularly of a morning and his services are freely availed of as boys are scarce. Mr A. B. Newman has disposed of Gex to Mr R. Sherratt and Boggitts to Mr Les. Coop. Mr Newman intends bringing a two-year-old full sister to Perfidy in to 'start training. A familiar official at the Park and Makaraka course in the person of Mr M. deCosta, clerk of the scales, was missing from the two recent meetings. Mr. J. C. E. Turner efficiently filled the position. "Whilst competing in the Maiden at the Park rin the first day, Marcnga broke down badly while running in a prominent position. His owner, Mr Les. Coop, had put in a lot of time with the Mnltifnal gelding and lie had shown him some good work. Owing to the unsettled condition ox the wharves all the outside horses are held up here. I have received a copy of the Now Zealand Turf Guide, a dominion register recording all racing results for this season up to January 3 last. Monthly supplements will be- issued at the end of each month bringing tile Guide up-to-date, thus enabling followers of racing to keep in touch with the season’s records. The publication is of great value to followers of the sport and offers a complete record from month to month of the form of horses all over the Dominion.
