LADIES AT CRICKET.

TOKOMARU MEN WELL TROUNCED.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TOKOMARU BAY, March 8. A rather novel cricket match was played on Saturday when a team of lady cricketers challenged the men. Special rules were made to cover the game which proved a very interesting one. The following are the rules : (1.) Eleven players on each side. (2.) Gentlemen to wear skirts, etc. (3). Plav to start at 2.30 p.m. (.4) Ladies can only be out, bowled or run out. (5.) Ladies scores to count, 4 for s past the line of flags, all other hits to be run for. (6.) Gentlemen must take all possible catches, such catches to count 2 runs to ladv making the hit. (7.) Ladies will only ru nwhen there is a chance of scoring. (S.) During ladies’ innings only two stumps and one ball will be used at each end. (9.) Ladies will provide afternoon tea; gentlemen must wait upon the ladies. (10.) Gentlemen will be out for hits beyond the lme of Hags, ill addition to* being out under ordinary rules of cricket. (11.) Gentlemen will run for every hit (tip and run). . (12.) Ladies to repair during tne match all garments worn by gentlemen players, which become torn or otherwise damaged. (13.) The team making most runs to be tlie winners.
