THE AUSTRALIANS’ TOUR. MATCH WITH INVERCARGILL. tPRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM. J INVERCARGILL, March 10. ■The Australians arrived in Invercargill this morning and commenced their match against Southland at Rugby Park in the afetrnoon in ideal weather on a beautiful wicket, and before an attendance of close on 1000 people, which was very large, considering that this was an off day. Soutliland won the toss and went to the wickets falling for a total of 35 runs, but the latter batsmen put a different complexion on matters and the total stood at 156 when the last wicket fell after two hours’ batting. Poole batted very freely and placed a respectable total to his credit, Poole being undefeated with 50 when the innings closed. With an hour and a-half to bat, the Australians opened with McGregor and Mailey, but the pair did not stay long together, the former being dean bowled by Doig when he had scored 7 runs. Mailey carried his total to 13, when Bannerman clean bowled him. Dr. Dolling and Cody carried the score along at a steady rate until at 85 the former got his leg in front to ICavanagh and retired. Sims did not stay long, spooning a ball up to square leg early iri his innings. Cody was hatting freely and, with Codings, took the total along to 113 for fot-ir wickets, when stumps were drawn at 5510 for the day. Tho match will be resumed at noon to-morrow.
