TOLOGA BAY, July 25. Valedictory.—Mr H. C. Date, accountant of the local branch of the Union Bank, has received notice of his promotion to a similar position in the Bank’s service at Nelson. During his two years’ residence at Tologa Bay, Mr Date has by his sterling qualities made many true friends throughout the district. On Wednesday evening he was tendered a public farewell at the Vicarage, and his universal popularity was clearly shown by the fact that over 50 people were present, many coming long distances to speed the parting guest. The evening was pleasantly spent with music and games, and just before the supper adjournment the vicar called upon Messrs C. E. Smith and V. J. Delany on behalf of the business community, T. E. Parry (Union Bank) and Mr G. D. Reed (Bank of N.Z.), to voice their feelings towards Mr Date. Tlie various speakers expressed their keen regret at the departure of one who had made himself deservedly popular and had at all times been ready and willing to assist everything for the advancement of the district. Reference was made to the fact that Mr Date would be very much missed, not only in business circles, but in the field of sport, and also as an earnest Church worker, but all were unanimous in congratulating him on his well-deserved promotion. In asking him to accept a present of a hansomely-bound nrayer book from the Sunday School teachers and pupils, the Vicar (Rev. Mr Davidson) expressed his personal thanks to the recipient for his invaluable and ready services as Sunday School Superintendent and Lay Worker. Mr Date was also handed a cheque for a substantial amount as a small token of esteem from his admirers in the district. Upon rising to respond. Mr Da>.e was greeted with prolonged applause, and in the course of a feeling reply, thanked his friends for their good wishes and handsome presents. He said he would ever remember the happy days spent in Tologa Bay and the universal kindnesses extended to A sumptuous supper provided bv the ladies was then partaken of, and the gathering dispersed in the early flours of the morning, after the singing of “God be with you till we meet again.”' ....
