SOCIAL AND GENERAL.

The hostesses at Golf last Saturday were Mrs R. U. Burke and Mrs and Miss King. Their dainty afternoon tea was much appreciated.

Miss Donner gave a charming little impromptu dance at her residence, Childers Road on Saturday evening last. The spacious verandah was utilised as a dancing room, and a most delightful evening was spent.

Everyone is looking forward with delight to the visit of the HamiltonPlimmer Comedy Company next week. Their performances are said to be of exceptional brilliance.

Mrs Scott, of “The Willows,” Ormond, dispensed , delightful afternoon tea to the of 'the Poverty Bay Hunt Club and their friends last Saturday afternoon.

Amongst those who were present I noticed—Mesdames Reynolds, Gaddum, Pattullo, Rutledge, Gouldsmith, R. Scott, Humphreys, Ensor, Sherrafcfc, and Poynter. Misses K. Sherratt and R. Scott.

Lamont Curr Concert

A number of enthusiastic music lovers were present at Mr. Lamont Gurr’s concert in the Scottish Hail on Wednesday evening. Mrs Gurr, who sang so delightfully, was attired in a pretty gown of rose crepe de chine gracefully draped, and lovely trimmings enhanced the effect. Mrs Dodgshun, whose accompanying is always a treat to hear, was gowned in silver grey crepe de chine prettily fashioned and relieved with touches of sky blue silk. Miss Mackenzie, whose singing is so much appreciated, wore a draped frock of shell pink eharmeuse with Paris lace arranged on the corsage, and a lovely rose ’.as tucked in the folds of. the gown Miss Hods, wb ■ made her debut, and received war::' applause and a lovely floral trim; he, was prettily froeked in ivory spun eharmeuse fashioned with si!.--, trimmings and a circlet of silver gi.: Aimed in her hair. The roomy reception interior of the Scottish Hall presented a gay appearance when the second of the winter assembly dances l" 1 ' this season was held.

The scheme of decorations, supper, arid music were all. that could be desired.. Some pretty and striking toilettes were worn by the ladies present. Mrs Carl Williams was charmingly attired in a graceful robe of champagne silk draped, with modish effect. Mrs E. H. Mann, was prettily gowned in a robe of creme duchesse satin with a black fish not tunic. Mrs Kells was attired in a handsome gown oil black eharmeuse satin with trimmings of sparkling Jtsfc. Mrs A. W. Rees wore a modish gown of black satin de soie with prettj trimmings. Mrs R. TT. Burke was gowned in black Oriental chiffon satin with effective trimmings on the corsage. Mrs Jex-Blake was attired in ivory satin with effective draperies of ciel blue eharmeuse swathed with smart effect.

Mrs Singer wore white Oriental satin with an overdress of ivcrv lace, •designed with pretty effect. Mrs E. M. Hutchinson was in chocolate tinted taffetas supreme, and pretty creme lace was arranged on

the corsage. Mrs Dodgshun was prettily gowned in a well cut robe of silver grey crepe do chine, with which were added touches of sky blue silk. ,

Mrs (Dr.) Reeve wore a graceful toilette of peacock blue green satin draped with pretty effect. ■Mrs C. Sainsbury was in a modish robe of salmon pink satin charmeuse with creme lace arranged on the corsage.

Mrs R. Sherratt wore a striking toilette of changeant green ninon de lil prettily draped, Mrs Lysnar wore floral patterned chine silk with trimmings arranged on the corsage. Mrs Field chose a charmingly draped robe of pastel blue charmeuse and ninon.

Mrs Hine was in a toilette of black velvet panne, and jetted trimmings were added. Mrs Gully wore purple ninon draped over mauve satiu. Mrs Murray was in black velvet and ivory lace was arranged on the corsage. Mrs Starkey wore white chiffon satin, embellished with ivory lace. Mrs Runciman was gowned in black crepe de chine, ■ with a guipure of creme lice arranged on the corsage. Mrs Callis wore a pretty charmeuse

satin toilette with drapings of Paris lace.

Mrs Kenvvay wore an effective gown of black- Oriental satin with 'dainty trimmings on the corsage of champagne tinted silk.-G. Mrs' Branson was gownetr in black silk with glistening jet trimmings. Mrs Traill wore royal blue nfnon arranged over white Oriental satin, the whole combining a pretty effect. Mrs A. Coleman wore a pretty draped robe of rose satin modishly fashioned.. Mrs Maude was attired in a well cut gown of black duchesse satin.

Mrs H. Bennett was froeked in pearl satin eharmeuse, with which was. added a directoire sash of orange silk. Mrs Gardiner was in aluminiumgrey ninon crepuscule charmingly draped. Mrs L. Coop wore pale ninon over blue chiffon silk and trails of pink roses were arranged on the gown. Mrs E. Adair wore shell pink chiffon satin effectively designed. Mrs King was in a draped gown of pink" lined chiffon silk draped in an effective desigii. Miss Lanauze was in a pretty frock of wedgewood blue ninon draped over emerald green silk. Miss Coleman was prettily froeked in ivory silk messaline with an overdress of ivory laee, daintily fashioned.

Miss Agnew Brown’s toilette was of royal blue liberty silk over which was arranged a tunic of beautiful laee. Miss Wachsmann was attired in wattle blossom satin eharmeuse with an overdress of black Chantilly lace. Miss McLaurin chose apricot tinted taffetas supreme, charmingly fashioned in modish effect.

Miss Donner wore a most striking toilette of Oriental satin eharmeuse swathed prettily with tomato red ninon.

Miss Watkins was prettily froeked m rose pink crepe with effective trimmings. Miss M. Rees wore carnation hued ninon over ivory chiffon satin. Miss D. Wachsmann was froeked in pastel pink satin eharmeuse prettily veiled in pastel-hued ninon. Miss Burnard wore eeil-blue silk with an overdress of ivory lace.

Miss Buswell was attired in pearl Oriental satin with silver sequined trimmings. Miss Bull wore black silk velvet with touches of silver.

Miss Q. Graham was dressed in heliotrope ninon a ranged over Oriental satin. Miss Murray wore floral ninon over blue silk, and purple trimmings were added. Miss Hine was in pale mauve ninon veiled over chiffon silk. Miss Montague wore a dainty frock of white lace over ivory- silk. Miss Minnitt was in a pastel pink robe, draped in pannier fashion and trimmed with Maltese lace. Miss King wore Oriental chiffon silk prettily fashioned a la mode. Miss Chrisp was in rose satin veiled with palest pink ninon. Miss M. Faulkener was prettily froeked in vieux rose silk made in modish design.

Miss D. Faulkener wore a frock of Oriental blue chiffon silk with effective trimmings.

Miss E. Williamson wore a striking toilette of vivid blue silk draped with smart effect over flamingo silk char-

meuse. Miss Orr wore soft eharmeuse satin gracefully draped, with pretty applique trimming on the corsage. Miss D. Bennett was froeked iff palest blue ninon draped over pink silk of a delicate tint. Miss Bradley wore sky blue satin eharmeuse partly veiled in viel ninon and maize tinted leaves were designed on the corsage.

Miss Turner wore a gown of vieux rose chiffon satin with draperies of "cream and black Paris laoe. Miss Brown wore a modishly draped frock of ivory Oriental satin with smart applique trimmings. Miss B. Black was in orange salmon panne silk designed and draped in smart effect.
