The striking miners at Charlestown (West Virginia) again came into conflict with the watchmen employed by the coal companies to protect the workings, and a pitched battle ensued, during which four miners were shot lire re “Is much rioting and bloodshed throughout the strike area. The United Mine Workers of America are conducting the strike, which is one of the bitterest ever experienced. There are also strike riots at Lansing (Michigan), where the militia are keeping the peace with difficulty. Armed miners are terrorising the district.
