AN AUCKLAND CASE. LADY WHO CYCLED AWAY. [PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM! AUCKLAND, May 28. A youth named Arthur Dunn, aged 23 y ears, was charged at the Po'ice Court to-day with having assaulted Emma Butcher on Sunday, April 27. Mrs Butcher said that she was cycling out to St. Heliers Bay on Sunday afternoon and got off his machine at*St. John’s College. She noticed two lads approaching her, one of them being Dunn, and the other a somewhat taller lad who had a black handkerchief over his face masking it. These two had passed her seven or eight yards, when one of them called “hands,” and then Dunn fireda revolver over her head-, She at once got on tho bicycle aud cycledaway. She had frequently seen .Dunn and knew him by sight, but she did not see the face of or knew the taller lad. After proceeding some distance she heard two more shots fired.

For the defence an attempt waß made to prove an alibi. It was also stated accused was simple-minded and was too much afraid of) firearms to handle them. Dunn was convicted and ordered to come' up for sentence ‘ when called upon, his mother and brother entering into a bond for his good behaviour.
