LEADERSHIP OF THE OPPOSITION
WHO WILL SECURE THE HONOR? THE TASK NOT YET MOUNTEDBy Telegraph—Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, July 31. The Opposition party has not yet surmounted the task of appointing a leader and during to-day’s proceedings Sir Joseph Ward and Messrs A. R. Myers and G. W. Russell all displayed a readiness to take a prominent part in such debates as occurred. Hon. T. Mackenzie, who was addressed as Leader of the Opposition by the Prime Minister, seemed to be almost indifferent ns compared with his neighbors on the front Opposition benches.
Some light was thrown upon the existing position by a well-informed Oppositionist, who declared emphatically that whoever might be selected as Leader it would not be Mr G. W. Russell.
