Tile poll for the raising of a loan of £15,000 for electrical extension and tlie sanctioning of a loan of £15,750 for road improvement, was taken yesterday. There was a fair amount of interest displayed, 763 ratepayers recording their votes out of the 2213 on the roll. Tlio figures are as follow - —Electric Light.— For. Agnst. Inf.

THE MAYOR GRATIFIED. “I feel highly gratified at the result, and desire to thank all those who voted in favor of the proposals,” remarked the Mayor to a- “Gisborne Times” reporter last evening. With regard to the number of ratepayers who voted, the Mayor said he thought at this season of the year it must he considered fairly satisfactory. Personally he would have liked to have seen a larger poll. The majority in each case- was substantial, and would give the Council confidence to carry out their present policy, but lie thought the fact of there having been substantial opposition must prove the necessity to the Council of very carefully considering their future operations. “I am thoroughly convinced that the ratepayers have done the right thing,” continued the Mayor, “and that thev will have no cause to regret their decision. I, on my part, will use every endeavor to see that the confidence expressed in the Council is justified.” _ . In conclusion, the Mayor said that the propositions decided upon that day were in his opinion absolutely necessary in the best interests of the borough, and he felt sure the Council would also feel gratified at the result and assist him in bringing to fruition the express will of the majority of the ratepayers.
