THE HIGH COMMISSIONERSHIP.

HON. T. MACKENZIE APPOINTED THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN THE HOUSE. CONGRATULATIONS AND REPLY. By Telegraph—Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, July 31. In the House this afternoon Mr Massey (Premier) said the Government had offered the position of High Commissioner to Mr Thomas Mackenzie, and lie had accepted the offer. Mr Mackenzie had had a very long commercial experience in London and New Zealand, and had also a long political career. He was certain that Mr Mackenzie would do credit to himself and benefit to the country. He would ask the Governor in a- few days to make the appointment.

Sir'Joseph Ward congratulated Mr Mackenzie who, lie was certain, would carry but his important duties with satisfaction to the country. Mr Russell- also asked leave to add his meed of praise to his chief on securing the blue riband of public service in this country.

Mr Mackenzie expressed his sense of the high honor conferred upon him. One of the most important matters to be dealt with was access of trade to some of the European countries. He intended laying some of his ideas on this matter before the Premier.
