ENTERTAINMENTS

PATHE PICTURES,

“The best programme I have seen,” was the verdict passed by a lady pa- ■ tron as the "audience filed- from His -Majesty’s'Theatre last' night.: There Aim bo no question hilt that the new series make up an evening’s excellent- entertainment. “The Battle of Potsburg Bridge,” a stirring story of the American Civil War, is alone worth the admission money. This stirring drama gives a meet- realistic depiction of -the-struggle between the Federals and Confederates for possession of the bridge over Potsburg creek. The Northerners are in possession, but a plucky Southern girl rows out and fires the bridge. The Southerners then retreat and blow up their end of the structure. The Eederals are caught between two fifes, and to save their lives have to jump into the river. On reaching the shore they, are promptly made prisoners of war’. The picture is a thrilling one, Kind is sufficient'to rouse any audience- “A Florentine Drama” is a fine Rathe colored picture, which tells liow a stern Cardinal comes 'between two lovers. The play is splendidly acted, and even the tragi? ending does not altogether destroy its ©harm. “-Fresh Water Fish” is a most instructive natural history subject, giving a splendid reproduction of carp, perch, bream, eels, stertet, and many other denizens" of lakes • and rivers. “The Inhabitants of Jungle Town” is another highly educative film, presenting all manner of queer birds, beasts, and reptiles. No more enjoyable comedy than “Captain Barnacle, Diplomat” has been, produced for many a long day. The two old seadogs, who conspire to bring a young couple together, provide keen merriment, and the whole-souled manner in whioli they -entered into the conspiracy has everyone laughing heartily. “’Twa-s Ever Thus” is another enjoyable comedy. The Patlie Gazette is full of good tilings, and the remaining pictures are well -up to standard. ’riie same programme will be repeated to-night.
