WAIAPU COUNTS COUNCIL.

"MONTHLY MEETING

■ Tho monthly meeting of the' Waipu County Council was held yesterday, there being present Crs. Jv. S. Williams (chairman), Knox, Coates, He aid, Kind Wicksteed. The Whak'atane County Council wrote regarding the- licensing election expenses, and it was agreed to pay the amount requested. The manager of Horehore station wrote thanking the Council for repairing the Horehore road, and requesting the formed road from Makarita to bo put in -order in. time for the wool season.—Cr. Heald moved and Cf. Wickstoed seconded, and the Council agreed to put the lead in order, in time for the wool season. A petition from residents at Reporua, asking that a road should to laid off, connecting . the settlement with Tuparoai The chairman moved and Cr- Heald seconded that the Council should consider the application reasonable and would do tho work when possible.— This was carried. A petition was received from residents and occupiers of land at Mangoapora Valley requesting a connection to he made from Rotokautaku to the Pakira. road line-, giving access to portion of the Hurakia block. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Cr. Wicksteed, it was agreed that the petitioners be informed that the Council hopes to carry out their wishes in the spring. A. Hana made application for tho renewal of- his slaughter license, and it was.granted. H. Tinirau was also granted a renewal. . The Stratford County Council wrote enclosing a resolution passed by it on the loth inst. —Received.

The Tokomaru Farmers’. Co-opera-tive Company made application for the Council’s permission to run an electric cable across Potae and Waimanu Streets.

The chairman moved and Cr. Wicksteed seconded that the Company be informed that the Council had no objection to the cable crossing the road, bub the Council was making inquiries as to the best method of crossing the street. The motion was carried.

Mr J. I. Cato, secretary of the Waiknra No. 2 bloak, wrote regarding the syxvey of tho road through the leasehold property. Cr Heald moved, Cr. Wicksteed <=eeonded, and it was carried that Mr Cato he written to and informed that the County Engineer had been instructed to confer with the -settlers and lay -off tho road. The Engineer’s report was read and considered. It was decided that the action of Cr. Oates and the Engineer in dealing with the tender for the ■breastwork, opposite To Puka Hotel, Tokomaru Bay, should ire confirmed. The Overseer’s report was read and discussed.

The Council went into committee to open tenders. On resuming it was resolved that the following should be a-cepted]: Contract IG-12, Thomas MacNamara, £235; contract 20-12, Messrs Grace and Curtis, £200; contract 21-12, John O’Shea, £587; contract 22-12, -John O’Shea, £3OO. C-r. Wicksteed moved and the chairman seconded, that tenders should be called for the work on the cuttings this side of Kaharau, on the Tuparoa road.

Councillor "Wicksteed moved, that the Engineer should he authorised to deal with the work, and it was carried. Crs- Oakes and Knox moved that tenders should he cal It'd for rock cutting ,at- Hikuwai Road, and Crs. Murphy and Oates ancl the Engineer were authorised to deal with the same. Crs. Heald and Knox ancl the Overseer were instructed to take proceedings against tho breakers of -by-law No. 7 (concerning the width of cart tyres). On the motion of the chairman ancl Cr- Wicksteed, a general rate of Pjcl in the £ was struck, over each and every riding in the County. Payments amounting to £2289 Is 9d were passed.
