The human© and nat-ion-building work has for a long time appealed to many people in Gisborne, and the necessity for such a society has made itself felt. Consequently, a number of ladies joined together, and the result of their efforts was a largely-attended meeting yesterday afternoon.

The primary purpose of the meeting, of course, was to make arrangements for the reception of Dr Truby King, who was recent ly granted several months’ leave from his duties by the Government so that ho might enter into a campaign for the promulgation of the Society’s aims and objects. The doctor, whose capabilities as a lecturer are wdely and favorably known an'd has gained prominence through His special knowledge of the Society’s work, is expected at Gisborne within a fortnight,’and will deliver a lecture, illustrated by appropriate limelight views. The lecture will serve to introduce the work of the Society to the public, and definite steps will he immediately taken to form a branch. In the meantime the following provisional officers have been elected:— Patroness, Mrs Townley; president, Mrs deLautourj vice-presidents, Mesdames A. Graham, Nolan, and D. W. Coleman; secretary, Mrs W. F. J. Anderson; committee. Mesdames Barker, Reeve, Wilson, Walker, Garrett, Crawford,, Kane, Rowley, Parker, C. P. Davis, Marshall, R. Johnston, Cederwall, Hughes, Etherington, Hei, R. Sherratt, E. M. Hutchinson, Parker and Harrold, Misses Strouts, Godfrey and Stubbs. The movement is being taken up with considerable enthusiasm, and there is little doubt that Gisborne will before long have the services of a Phm'ket nurse.
