ENTERTAINMENTS.

PATHE PICTURES

No less enthusiastic reception than that accorded it on Saturday evening was accorded the presentation of Dickens’ immortal story, “A Tale of Two Cities,” at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. That the film has the power to hold the undivided attention, of a large audience for upwards of an hour is alone a great tribute to the actors who arc engaged in the play. The excellent studies which make up the earlier portion of the evening’s entertainment are quite in harmony with the star item, and the “comedies” create considerable mirth. The scenic items include' a study of some of the most beautiful spots in Southern Italy and a fine view of the historical town of Sorrento, on the Bay of Naples. This series of pictures will be screened for the last time this evening. CHILDREN’S SKATING CARNIVAL. The precincts of the skating rink presented a gay spectacle last evening, when the prettily-dressed juveniles who participated in the Children’s Carnival last week once more made the interior of the building gay with their rippling laughter and many-colored fancy costumes. Although there were not many new characters present, and the number of spectators was not so large as on the first night of the children’s carnival, those present last night appeared to thoroughly enjoy themselves. The competitions for the evening all took the form of races, and these were contested with vigor and caused a good deal of excitement. The girls race, which was by no means the least important, was won after a keenly fought contest by Miss I. Ghrisp. Tne hoys’ race was a great success, and from the word “go’ ’the youthful racers showed determination and generalship. Towards the finish Masters F. Brown and A. Gibson were well in advance of the rest of the field, the former being slightly in the advantage, but was fast being overhauled when he fell and Gib--son fell over him. The judge awarded the prize to Brown. The only other contest was the pairs race, and this was won by Miss I; Chrisp and J. Croskery in fine style. . - • ",
