DEMONSTRATION IN THE COMMONS
WILL THE CONSERVATIVES UNITE?

The chief demonstration over the passage of the Parliament Bill was in the House of Commons, which was discussing Mr. Lloyd George’s motion for payment of members. When the news was received from the House of Lords, exultant cheers were given from the Government benches. Tlie. demonstration continued until tlie Payment of Members Bill, passed. Messrs Lee, Hayes-Fislier, and Chamberlain vigorously opposed the measure. Mr. Balfour has started for Gastin, in the Austrian Alps. Conservative journals express the hope that the Conservatives will now unite and continue the great struggle ahead. Some papers publish a. black list of Unionist peers voting for the “Betrayal.”
