CONFERENCE AT INVERCARGILL. Press Association. INVERCARGILL, Feb. 28. A conference of tlie Southland sawmill owners and workers was held today. The workers wanted practically an all-round increase in wages, although at present more than 50 per cent, of the men are getting mop@*» than the award minimum, which is taken as showing that the demand for men is greater than the supply. The men argue.that the increase Jn tlie number available will result in a decrease of the minimum rate, therefore they sought an increase of tlie minimum now. Employers are agreeuhle to make certain increases, "provided the men agree to compensating and matters remain as they are’ In the meantime it remains for the union to decide whether to go to the Arbitration Court again.
