The Archbishop of Canterbury, in a, letter to the clergy of the laity of his diocese, says he believes the clergy will act rightly and wisely in saying that deceased wife’s sister’s marriages when they occur under statute making them permissible as civil contracts ought to occur elsewhere than in the church, but his advice, which was advice only, was not to give formal direction or injunction. Ho would not regard as disloyal or disrespectful any incumbent who, carefully weighing the whole circumstances, comes to a different conclusion. Lord Minto, the Governor-General, reports that the agricultural situation in India, is worse. Mr. A. do R. Labistour, AttorneyGeneral for Natal, has disappeared, and is supposed to have been eaten by crocodiles while hunting on the Kasaya river.
