POVERTY BAY V. GISBORNE.
THE IO'STONE CREW RACE.
Tho race between the ten-stone orews in connection with the L : censed Victuallers’ Shield was rowed off last evening, and resulted in a win for the Poverty Bay shed by several length?. The orews were : . POVERTY BAY : H. Warren (stroke), Alf. Pool (3), W. Haokett (2), A. MoOonnell (bow), Lang (oox). GISBORNE: Swianerton (stroke), Butler (3), Hamilton (2), Cumming (bow), Luttrell (oox). Swinnerton’s crew, who were slightly favorites, got the best of the start, getting a good balf-length’s lead, At the footbridge Warren’s crew had overtaken their opponents and had obtained a oouple of lengths’ lead, which they had no difficulty in maintaining to the post. THE SENIOR CONTEST.
To-night the senior orews try conclusions, and a splendid race should be wit* cessed. The race will be over the twomile course. The crews are as fallows
GISBORNE : W. Johnstoae (stroke)' Wauchop (3), H, Bright (2), Bharp (bow)' POVERTY BiY: J. Webb (stroke), RJones (3). T. Sheen (2), M. McLeod (bow)' Both crews were out on the river las* evening, and showed very good form. A considerable amount of interest is being taken in this raoe, which should be very stoutly contested.
