The partnership produced a few more runs, but the former player w r as caught by Warner when his score stood at fi. H. Madsen did not last long, only managing to break his “duck,’; when he was dismissed, being caught by Bosanquet. Judd was playing careful cricket when he was joined by Perry, A lengthy partnership resulted, the score being carried to 60 before Perry retired, caught. Leatham then came on, and proved disastrous, causing the retirement of Bachey (1), Laurenson ‘.(I), Ogier (3;, F. Hawke (0), Galwey (3), Ticehurst (3), Keys (0) ; but when Judd was 26 he was caught by Bosanquet. Logan anti Gundy hit out vigorously, and soon knocked up 17, before the union was 'interfered with by Hargreaves, Logan retiring with 10 to his credit. Frith joined Gundy, but was run out, 0. Sloan came to the rescue on joining Cundy, but the latter, after contributing 7_to the total, was given out lbw. Nicholls kept his wicket up, while Swan saw 10 to his credit, but the former’s life was short, being caught by Bosanquet, when the total stood at 117 for nineteen wickets. Renall joined Swan, and both batsmen gave a fine exhibition of slogging, and were not separated before 142 were on the hoard. N. Madsen replaced Renall, and the field were given some racing about, the latter hitting out with great confidence and vigor, his score being 41 before being caught by Stanning. It included lour fourers and four threes. Swan carried his bat for 19. The first innings concluded for the respectable total of 205. Hargreave took twelve wickets for 51 runs, Thompson four for 55, Bosanquet one for 21, and Burnup three for 56. The Englishmen commenced their essay at 4 o’clock, Warner and Whatman going to the wicket first. Wairarapa fielded eighteen. These two batsmen dealt severely with the home bowling- In the fourth over, Ogier mulled the ball, when he should easily have stumped Warner. The score was carried to 64, when Whatman was dismissed lbw. His effort produced 46. Williams replaced him, but was retired when lie had scored 7.- Burnup had a fairly long life, carrying the total to 97, when Warner was run out. His effort was responsible for 24. Dowson was next in. Frith accepted a catch from Burnup when the score was 122. Very slow cricket was now witnessed until the day’s play ceased. Stanniug filled the vacancy till 171 appeared on the board. Bosanquet came next, He knocked up two, when he was run out. Leatham joined Dowson, and these two were both in when stumps were drawn for the day. The individual scores were : Warner 24 Whatman 46, Williams 7, Burnup 34,’ Stanning 14, Bosanquet 2, Dowson (not out) 52, Leatham, 3, extras 9 total, 185 for six wickets^
