PARLIAMENTARY.

LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. By, Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, last night. Tho Council met at 2.130. Mr Rigg moved that the Government he requested to take into consideration tho administration of tho Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Act by tho Court of Arbitration. The debate was adjourned. A large number of local Bills wero put through the final stages. The Council resumed at 8 p.m. After three hours’ debate tho motion for tho committal of lion. Mi Riggs’ Tied Houses BUI was negatived by 12 to 5. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. Tho House mot at 2.30. On tho motion of Sir Joseph Ward, a number of Bills wero struck off tho Order Paper, including tho j following ones : Lands for Settlement Act Amendment, Crown Tenants Rent Rebate, Orchard and Garden Pests. Young Persons Protection, Tenants Rights, Shops and Offices, and Absolute Majority Vote.

The Public Accounts Committee reported that tho charging of £SOOO, in rospect of tho Coronation Contingent, was in accordance with the practice followed by tho Treasury for years. Mr Jas. Allon contended that the sum should have been charged to tho unauthorised expenditure : ho also complained that tho House had not been consulted as to tho despatch of tho Contingent, and bolieved the total cost would reach £IO,OOO or more.

Sir Joseph Ward said Parliament was not consulted because the invitation was not received .until after tho closo of tho session. With regard to payment, tho usual course had boon followed.

A long debate ensued, lasting until tho 5.30 adjournment.

Tho House resumed at 7.30. Tho Methodist Church of Australasia in New Zealand Bill, to give statutory sanction to a chango of namo of tho Wesleyan Mothodisi Church in Now Zealand, was read a second time. Tho Military Pensions Bill, which extends provisions of tho Act of 1900 to tho Eighth, Ninth, and Tenth Coutingonts, was read n second timo.

Tho Railways Authorisation Bill, Pharmacy Act Amendment Bill, Taurnnga Educational Endowment Reserves Bill, Inebriates Institutes Amendment Bill, and Public Health Amendment Bill wore also road u second time. Tho committal of tho Native and Maori Land Laws Amondmont Bill and tho Municipal Corporation Bill was agrood to. Tho Houso voso at midnight.
