"Muldoon's Picnic" Company.

There was a great crowd at the Theatre lioval last night, when Frank M. Clark’s MiilJoon's Piettic Company commenced their season in Gisborne. The aim ot the entertainment is to cause people to have a good hearty laugh, and the large audience last night had that to their hearts’ , content. The first act. the scene of which | was Muldoon's home, comprised “ The . arrival of Muldoon and Muleahev; Bulgaria water for two —Turn the Hose on j me : Can she sing Croppy lie down: j Jenny sings Mull and .Mack tu sleep ; l’ea ! Shooters : Trouble : Arrival of the Guests ; j Naming the Baby; Timmy O'Brien is j introduced to Muldoon and Muleahev; They both take a • drop ; arrival of : Parson Brownlow : Ructions.” Mr Frank I M. Clark, who is a most successful : comedian, very successfully took the main | part of Michael Muldoon, and with Dennis i Muleahev (Mr Joe Cowan) as his bosom friend, thev kept the fun going. The handsome Miss Connie Devcreux, attired in a rich crimson silk dress, played the character of Ella Muldoon, the Irish lass of polished education, with much spirit. She received a double encore for her song, *' I Love You.” A great favorite was Miss Lily Danvers as Jenny, whose tuneful song and piquant dance were much appreciated and twice encored. "An Irishman s ! Toast ” was given in fine style by Mr Clark. The act finished up with an exciting time when the good-Presbyterian parson (Mr Clifford), the victim of a practical joker, came on the scene to perform the christening ceremony. The other characters were allotted : Oharicy Lovelace, Mr Walter Rivers; Tirutny O’Brien, Mr John Ford: Mrs Muldoon, Miss May Conroy. The second part of the programme was even more entertaining than the first, and there was laughter long and loud from start to finish. The performance of the dummy clown, in his sketch “ Silence and Fun,” took greatly with the audience, and was thrice encored. The Muldoon Family came on the scene i for their picnic, which was of so hilarious j a character as to outshine anything that I may come off in Gisborne tomorrow, so far as fun and merriment ate concerned. The vehicle in which the family were ' conveyed to the “picnic ground” was drawn by “ Jerry the Wise,” a real four- ■ legged donkey, which has now become a i great favorite' among the young people of I the town. Variety was given to the rest j of the programme by a number of speeiali- { ties performed by llexo, who proved himi self to bo u wonderful adept at the art of I balancing and conjuring. His different feats were much applauded. Some excellent coon songs were sung by Miss Millie liartato, and included the popular number “ Lulu,” the lady vocalist being treated to triple encore. The specialities by Micky Muldoon and Denny Mulcahoy ! wore highly diverting, and enured no end jof fun. Among the items was a burlesque I on the Gisborne Fire Brigade, which | caused much amusemont.

To-night the company givo their second performance of the season, an entire change of programme being promised. The season concludes to-morrow night.
