HUGE DEPOSITS OF URANIUM FOUND IN WALES

(10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 26. Huge deposits of uranium—raw material of the atom bomb —have been found by Government scientists in Wales, says the Sunday Dispatch. The investigations so far show that 1,000,000 tons of what is now the world’s most sought after metal are available close to the surface at Dolgelly, Merionethshire. Other deposits have been found in potash beds in Yorkshire and around a disused lead mine on the Isle of Man. Members of a special investigation branch of the geological survey who found the deposits are preparing a report for the Government.

A survey official said tonight that it was possible there was even more than the estimated 1,000,000 tons at Dolgelly. During the search nearly 4000 different samples of radio-active rocks were analysed further for the presence of uranium.
