FREE MARKETING WANTED BY RETAIL FRUITERERS
WELLINGTON. July 25
The New Zealand Retail Fruiterers' and Greengrocers’ Federation opposed any marketing system other than the open market, said the president. Mr. L. K. Jonkers. at the annual conference in Wellington. Only free marketing would eliminate black marketing, as it existed under the present apple and pear board regulations. Retailers, he said,, would continue to press for the right to purchase apples and pears direct from the growers.
"While the National Government is not responsible for the present legislation. it must accept the responsibility if it allows the present circumstances to operate one moment longer than is necessary,” declared Mr. Jonkers.
