New School Site On Kaiti Block: Grant Approved

The Minister of Education, Mr. R. M. Algie, has approved the purchase of an area of eight acres in Kail! to serve as the site of the new school for that suburb. Mr. Aigie has conveyed advice to this effect to the Gisborne district member, Mr. R. A. Keeling.

The site will face Graham Road, and will provide adequate space for extension of school facilities in supplementation of those now available at the old scnooljn Wainui Road.

Its purchase was recommended by the Hawke's Bay Education Board as a step towards relieving congestion at the old school and meeting the prospect of a considerable increase in the number of school-age children in the Kaiti area.

Recent sub-divisions of farming land in Kaiti and the demand for sections have indicated such an increase, and the board took steps some time ago to ensure that a school site should be reserved.

It is forecast that when water and scwerace reticulation is extended beyond the present limit at de Laulour Road Hie expansion of settlement in the suburb will include a substantia] block of State rental houses. With prospects of such increases in residential population, it is obvious that the old school will not long serve the subinb. It is expected that improvements to the new site and the beginning of a building programme will commence shortly.
