MESSRS. C. W. BATSON. G. H. Fisher. W. Newcomb, V. J, Porter and P. Scholium have left on a three weeks' tour of the South Island which will include the Grand National meeting at Christchurch.
MR. LAWSON FIELD, president of the Gisborne Veterinary Club, has been appointed a member of the Veterinary Services Council, representing the farmers’ veterinary clubs and associations.
MRS. H. O. McFARLANE, a wellknown Gisborne resident, was given prominence at the recent Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace when she received the sympathy of the King and Queen upon the loss of her four sons during the late war. One son, Laurence, was lost on air operations near Kiel in 1940, and in the same year Francis was killed in an air accident in New Zealand and Donald was killed in action in the Western Desert, while serving with the N.Z.E.F. The fourth son survived until 1943, when he was lost at sea while serving with the R.N.Z.A.F. in the Pacific campaign.
