MR. J. FREEMAN, Gisborne, was welcomed as a new member of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce at its monthly meeting last night by the president, Mr. R. G. Clare. MR. M. IT. BEUTH, chairman, presided at a management committee meeting of the P.B. Rugby Union last night. Also present were. Messrs. J. R. Smith, S. Ritchie, T. Dennis. T. Clough, A. E. Locke, E. Felton, R. Callaghan, T. McGuffie arid W. S. McKee, secretary. MR. J. B. WILLIAMS presided at yesterday’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board, at which were also present Mr. E. Pritchard, and Messrs. W. C. Kuhn, E. R. Black. J. H. Mall. 11. J. F. Tombleson. 11. H. Barker. H. H. Dods, 11. Cooper, P. F. Barker, and A. M. Tra fiord.
MR. T. A. COLEMAN, Gisborne urban area. Mr. D. M. Campbell, middle ward, and Mr. 11. S. M. Quigley, south ward, were congratulated at Friday's meeting in Napier on their being returned unopposed to seats nn the Hawke's Bay Education Board. Mr. M. R. Parkhill. Hastings, who is not offering himself for re-election, received good wishes from members. MR- E. G TYLER, registrar of the Kaikohe Magistrate's Court, who has been appointed deputy-registrar of the Gisborne Magistrate's Court and the Gisborne Supreme Court, has taken up his new duties. He replaces Mr. A. E. Hynes, who lias left on transfer to Palmerston North. Mr. B. Sutton, a member of the staff of the Gisborne Courthouse. has been transferred to tiie staff of the Magistrate’s Court in Auckland. MR. W. CARRUTHERS. who is to take up an appointment at Rotorua shortly and has consequently resigned from the staff of the Cook Hospital, was invited to join members of the Cook Hospital Board at afternoon tea yesterday and was offered an informal farewell. The chairman. Mr. J. B. Williams, mentioned that Mr. Carruthers had joined th stuff 30 .years ago as bacteriologist, and had given excellent service in that post. The board would have preferred to retain his services, but nevertheless wished nini well in his new appointment. Other members of tiie board warmly endorsed the chairman’s good wishes.
