HOPES OF EARLY SETTLEMENT OF MINING DISPUTE
AUCKLAND. July 25.
Members of the national council o. the United Mine Workers’ Federation will meet in I-luntly tonight to try to settle the dispute at the Pukemiro colliery which led to the Waikato coalfields strike.
The national president. Mr. A. Prendivillc, of Nightcaps, will be the chairman. Members of the Northern Miners’ Union are optimistic that a settlement will follow the meeting. About 1500 miners have been idle since July 13. when the men struck for t.he reinstatement of a trucker who was dismissed at the Pukemiro mine on July 11. The loss of coal ouput so far is estimated at more than 2G.000 tons.
