IN AND OUT OF TOWN Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Jefferd have returned to Tokomaru Bay after spending a few days at Wainui Beach. Mrs. P. Pittar, Haronga Road, has left for a visit to Waipukurau, Masterton and Martinborough. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Hine, Woodstock, Manutuke, have returned home after a visit to Featherston. They were the guests of Mrs. J. Donald. Mr. and Mrs. W. Acton Adams, North Canterbury, were visitors to Gisborne last week. They stayed at the Masonic Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Sherratt, Hangaroa, were week-end visitors to Wainui Beach. Mr. and Mrs. H. Allan, Poututu station. have returned from a visit to Wellington. Misses Gloria and Gwen Findlay, Xvlasonic Hotel, are visiting Auckland. Mrs. J. W. Bain, Graham Road, recently returned to Gisborne after a visit to Waihi and Auckland. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Jefferd, Tokomaru Bay, have returned home after visiting Gisborne for the hunters’ trials. They stayed at Wainui Beach. Mrs. H. McDowell, formerly of Te Puia, is spending a few days at the Masonic Hotel. She plans to leave for Australia in September, and from there proceed to England. , Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jackson, Huiarua, Tokomaru Bay, have returned home after a visit to Hawke’s Bay. They were the guests of Mrs. F. P. Sherriff, Waipawa. Miss Anne Williams, Ngamoe, Ruatoria, was a week-end visitor to Gisborne. She was the guest of Mrs. J. T. Dodgshun, Kingsley Road. Mr. and Mrs. J. Crawford-Smith, Rutene Road, have returned home after a visit to Christchurch.

Mrs. G. I. Parker. Rawiri Street, has left for a vsiit to Wairoa, Waipukurau and Masterton. She will be the guest of Mrs. Roland Perry in Masterton. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. JefTerd, Tokomaru Bay, were visitors to Gisborne for the hunters’ trials on Saturday. They stayed at Hexton. Miss Ann Holden has returned to Hastings after a short visit to Gisborne. She stayed with Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Holden, Pouawa.

Mrs. W. J. Mclldowie, Totangi, Ngatapa, is staying with her daughter, Mrs. W. B. Jefferd. Tokomaru Bay. Miss D. Fitzgerald. Rere, was a weekend guest of her grandmother, Mrs. H. Packe, Parua Street. Mrs. M. A. Carter, Roebuck Road, leaves Gisborne on Thursday en route to England. She will sail for Wellington on Saturday in the Tamaroa. Dr. Shirley Robertson, who has been visiting her parents in Gisborne, has returned to Wellington. AIR FORCE CABARET Many light-hearted dancers thronged Poho-o-Rawiri Hall on Saturday evening, when members of the Gisborne branch of the Air Force Association held a very successful cabaret. The committee responsible for its organisation included Mr. Dick Shaw, president. Mr. Ray Mooney, secretary, Mr. G. G. Muir, vice-president. Messrs. N. King. V. Caves, A. H. De Costa. J. Aitkin, K. Crompton, A; M. Andrews, T. MeMurray, C! Smith. N. Williamson. R. Watchman, Mrs. R. Birchnell, Misses Gwen Findlay and Janet Barnes. A burlesque entitled “Korean Capers.” presented by Messrs. N. Williamson. N. Oldridge. R- Watchman and T. MeMurray caused considerable amusement.

Miss Lena Ruru's orchestra provided the music for dancing, and Mr. N. Redstone was the M.C.

DINNER • PARTY Mr. and Mrs. A. Christie, prior t° Mr. Christie’s departure for England next month, were the guests of houour when Mrs. Gordon Gregory invited a lew intimate friends to a small dinner party at her home In Russell Street. ' The rooms were gay with bowls of spring flowers, camellias and Jonquils. The hostess chose a lime Rreen crepe frock, and Mrs. Christie was wearing a lemon - shaded, hand - embroidered handkerchief linen blouse and a black skirt. FAREWELL PARTY Mr. and Mrs. W. Carruthers, who are leaving Gisborne shortly, were the guests of honour on Saturday when Mrs. F. Kahlenberg invited members of the medical profession and their wives to a party at 5.30 at her home in Childers Road. . . The hostess wore a beige wool crepe frock and a spray of orchids. Mrs. Carruthers was wearing a red, black and grey Paisley silk frock and a small black hat. . ~ Bowls of irises were the decorations in the house. ST. ANDREW’S WOMEN’S FELLOWSHIP GROUP Last Wednesday night was the occasion of the first meeting of the St. Andrew’s Women’s Fellowship Group conducted by the newly-elected president, Mrs. J. Smellie. The meeting opened with devotions, led by Miss Clover, who also gave a short but interesting talk of the trials of the missionaries in China and India at present. The large gathering heard a stimulating address given by Sister E. Ross, Nuhaka, on the work and activities of the various home mission stations throughout New Zealand. A warm vote of thanks was accorded Sister Ross by Mrs. E. Williamson on behalf of the group, and she was asked to accept a gift box of flowers as a token of appreciation. , _ , The meeting adjourned to the Sunday School Hall for a social interlude, where supper was served by Mesdames Allan, Crawshaw. Turner, Scandrett and Oliver. BEFORE THE CABARET Several people entertained friends before the Air Force Cabaret on Saturday night. . , v Mrs. A- M. Andrews invited a number of friends to her home in Parau Street. Mrs. Andrews was wearing a rose pink chiffon evening frock over matching taffeta. Bowls of jonquils, japonica and sweet peas were the decorations in the house. . , Another hostess was Mrs. Dick Shaw, who invited friends to a buffet dinner party at her home in Dickson Street. Mrs. Shaw had chosen a black velvet evening frock. Her house was decorated with jonquils, Iceland poppies, violets and greenery.
