Words Hurt More Than Bullets

(10 a.m.) Buenos Aires, Ju. 23

Two members of the Argentine Chamber of Deputies, a Peronista Party deputy, John William Cooke, and a Radical Party deputy, Oscar Lopez Serrot, fought a duel with pistols today. Cooke challenged Serrot last night because the latter called him a traitor and a convert for switching from the Radical to the Peronista Party.

Cooke also challenged the Radical deputy, Arturo Frondizi, to a duel for the same reason.

When Cooke and Serrot fought the duel, each fired one shot at 20 paces. Neither was hurt. They left the scene still unreconciled.
