German Reds Recall June 22, 1941
BERLIN. June 22
Russian aid had “laid the foundation stone for the re-emergence of German national sovereignty,’’ the East German President, Dr. Otto Grotewohl, declared today in a statement commemorating the ninth anniversary of Hitler's attack on Russia.
“The victory of the Soviet Army over Hitlerite barbarism opened a new chapter in German history,” he said.
The Government, in its anniversary statement, said: "Piratical Hitler fascism has been succeeded by equally piratical Anglo-American imperialism seeking to conquer the world and force our people into a new June 22.” In Moscow, the Pravda, the official organ, commented: "New claimants to world supremacy would well be advised to mind the ignominious end of the Fascist predecessors.” Russia had beaten Germany singlehanded, said Pravda.
