Wellington Bread Bakery Closed
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, March 31. An acute shortage of staff has forced one of the largest bread bakeries in Wellington to close down this weekend, and unless another big bakery can build up its staff it will have to stop producing in one month. The bakery which is closed is that of Cresswell and Sons Limited. It produces between 20,000 and 30,000 loaves a week, or about 9 per cent of Wellington's needs. The president of the Wellington Master Bakers’ Association, Mr. M. T. Bell, said today that if the second shut-down did occur it would just about make things impossible. In the meantime the association was ensuring that the public would receive full supplies of bread.
