Wool Prices Up To 3d Higher At Christchurch

(P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 1. The third Christchurch wool sale of the season was held yesterday when catalogues totalling 30,181 bales were submitted to a large bench of buyers. The offering was a representative one and was fully up to tire standard for this sale, says the official report. As in the earlier sales, many ol' the clips were more or less dusty and yolk stained but there were a good number of bright, light conditioned wools. The back-country clips were mainly rather discoloured and fairly heavy in condition.

Rather more crossbreds were on offer than earlier in the season but, as usual, the bulk of the offering comprised medium to fine halfbreds, with a small percentage of Merinos. A few lots of lambs’ wool were also included but the bulk of these will not conic forward till the next sale. Continent Dominates Market

Competition was keen and general. Continental buyers dominated the market for fine quality fleece and pieces, while Bradford was mainly interested in I medium qualities. As compared with recent sales in the North Island, all classes of crossbreds were Id to 2d higher in the grease. Fine halfbreds and Merinos sold particularly well and can be quoted at a Id to 3d higher than in February. Medium halfbreds were fully firm and all classes of three-quarterbreds and crossbreds were at least 2d per lb dearer. Fine pieces and necks were also 2d to 3d higher, while medium and coarse pieces were about on a par with last sale. There was practically a complete clearance at the auction.
