Horocra Maori Sriiool Picnic. The Horoera Maori School held its annual picnic on Saturday in showery conditions which, however, did not detract from the enjoyment of the day. This school, situated approximately 10 miles east of Te Araroa across two unbridged rivers which causes its isolation at periods during winter, is one of the country's most remote. The picnic on the Tokorarangi marae in the morning took the form of field and tabloid events, with a horse parade of school children, which was a new feature. Single Women: M. Craig, 1; R. Tikao, 2; P. Connop. 3. Twenty children entered for the horse event, which included walking, ambling, slow trotting, fast trotting, and cantering round the ring. The horses were beautifully groomed. The event resulted: Nepia Dewes. 1; Mary Korohina, 2; Tira Puha, 3. Mr. H. .Ruwhiu was the judge. Ball games in house competition resulted in three wins to Nikau, one each to Kahikatea and Hekctara. Rata and Kowhai failed to score. Following the sports activities a meal was served by the parents dicing which Mr. IT. J. Dewes, chairman of 1 the school committee, made a short speech. Ms. Dewes and ho willing helpers were responsible for the excellent meal. , A short concert of pois, hakas and . action songs followed. Mary Korotuna led the pois, Hcmi Ruwhiu the hakas, '• and Tira Puha was the junior leader. ' Mrs. Panere, Misses Connop, Craig : and E. Hovell, Te Araroa, were guests. | A dance was held in the evening. ■ The Hunara orchestra provided the 1 music and Mr. M. Korohina acted as < M.C.
