Improved Standard In Skiing For North Island Titles
(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Sept. 5. The snow was soft and crystaline and the weather conditions were perfect for the first day of the North Island ski chamDionshios at East Mount Egrnont on Saturday. The standard of skiing was an improvement on that of last vear and according to officials the selection of the team y compete against tne Australians will oe difficult because of the number with claims to inclusion. The 194 G and 1947 New Zealany down-hill and slalom champion, Miss Helen Alanson (Ruapehu Ski Club) of Owhango, who resumed skiing only a few weeks ago after recovering from a broken leg suffered at the conclusion of a skiing holiday in Switzerland last vear. was unfortunate.
