TAMERLANE HAS RUNAWAY WIN IN CUP STEEPLES

OTAGO HUNT

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Sept. 5. The Otago Hunt Club held its annual meeting at Wingatui on Saturday in summerlike weather before a good attendance. The track was dead. The totalisator handled £43,884, compared with £49,910 last year. Tamerlane upset calculations when he easily accounted for the field in the Hunt Cup Steeples to the tune of a win dividend exceeding a quarter of a century, while Pageant, who recorded his first’success in open company, paid almost a score in the Tally-Ho Handicap. After running third in the Otago Hunt Cup Steeples, Gay Music was paraded in the Irwin Steeples, which he won in convincing style.

Captain Kinder was withdrawn from the Brockville Trotting Handicap by the stipendiary stewards for being incorrectly nominated. His trainer, A. Grainger, was fined £2. Balahulish broke with about six furlongs to rum in the Brockville Trotting Handicap and he upset Solandri, who lost her driver, A. W. Crawford.
