MIDDLESEX GO TO LEAD IN COUNTY SERIES

(11 a an.) LONDON, Aug. 12. Middlesex has gained a lead of eight points in the county cricket championship table. Middlesex defeated Kent today and Worcestershire, formerly the joint leaders, were beaten by lowly-placed Somerset. Scores:—

Middlesex, first innings 346 (Robertson 91): second innings 154. Kent, first innings 242 (Fagg 82, Young 6-80); second innings 136 (Young 4-51). Middlesex won by 122 runs. Leicester, first innings 243 (Tompkin 111, Greenwood 5-72); second innings 201 for eight. Lancashire, first innings 309 for eight declared (Deighton 79). Match drawn.

Notts, first innings 464 for nine, declared (Simpson 75, Hardstafl not out 156). Sussex, first innings 242, and followed on scoring 137 (Harvey 6-58). Notts won by an innings and 85 runs. Surrey, first innings 374 (Parker 102). Gloucester, first innings 168 (Laker 5-30), and followed on scoring 196. Surrey won by an innings and 10 runs. Worcester, first innings 180 (Hazell 8-42); second innings 88 (Hazell 4-24, Lawrence 5-42). Somerset, first innings 146 (Jenkins 7-84); second innings 124 for four. Somerset won by six wickets.

Northants, first innings 408 for seven declared (Jakeman 169). Derby, first innings 146, and followed on scoring 182 (Webster 4-39). Northants won by an innings and 80 runs. Yorkshire, first innings 227 (Carty 4-46); second innings 262 for eight, declared. Hampshire, first innings 208 (Wardle 6-57); second innings 175 (Wardle 5-66). Yorkshire won by .106 runs.
