DAILY ROUND PARTY FOR GOLFERS On Wednesday the P.B. Golf Club committee entertained visiting golfers and ex-committee members at 5 o'clock at the home of Mrs. R. U. Burke, Northcote road. The house was decorated with cyclamen and primula. ADDRESS TO WOMEN Mrs. J. S. Stenhouse, Tauranga, will arrive at Gisborne on Monday at the invitation of the National Party, Gisborne electorate. She will address the women workers and supporters of the National Party in Gisborne on the National Party organisation. Mrs. Stenhouse is a member of the Dominion Council of the National Party, and is also a delegate to the South Auckland division.
KNOX YOUNG WIVES Despite inclement weather, the Knox Young Wives and Mothers’ Club held a well attended meeting at the home of Mrs. Timms, where a bright fire was appreciated.
Mrs. McKay, president, opened the meeting with a reading and prayer and welcomed a new member. The club had been asked to take charge of the sweet stab at the church garden party to be held in November. Mrs. Ball was chosen to be convener of the baby show. Members agreed to help with the street day in aid of the crippled children. Sick members had been visited and flowers sent. Soap was brought to be sent to the English link. The roll-call, “A tried recipe,” proved popular. The competition, the most articles in a match box, resulted:—Mrs. Timms, 1; Mrs. Dyson, 2; Mrs. McLean. 3.
A dainty supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdnmes McKay, Trowell and McLean Mrs. Timms was thanked for the use of her home, and the Rev. H. Dyson closed the meeting with a prayer.
LITERARY CIRCLE CONCERT St. David’s Church was gay with floral decorations last Tuesday night when at the invitation of the St. David’s Women’s Association the literary circle of the Gisborne Women's Club presented a most successful concert in aid of the church extension fund. >
Despite unpleasant weather conditions. there was a large and appreciative audience. The Rev. H. Dyson welcomed members of the circle, and the convener, Mrs. R. L. Gray, expressed their pleasure in assisting the church.
The programme, presented by Mrs. V. Clement, comprised vocal solos by Mrs. R. Knox, piano and violin solos by Mrs. D. Cowing and Mrs. Elliott respectively, and elocutionary items by Mesdames N. Hooper and T. N. Kane. Accompanists were Mesdames Elliott and Cowing. A humorous sketch entitled “Fortune is a Cowboy,” was given by Mesdames Hooper and Gray, while a one-act play, "Thirty Minutes in a Busy Street,,” was produced by Mrs. Clement and a cast of 10, Mesdames Cowing, Gray, Hooper, Holmes, Hutchins, Jones, Kane, Maynard, Richards and Walworth. Both sketch and play were very amusing, evoking warm applause. Community singing was led by the Rev. H. Dyson, • Mrs. Elliott being the accompanist. Following the serving of a delectable supper, Mrs. C. Michie, president of the Women’s Association, thanked the performers and all helpers who had contributed to the success of the concert.
