FIRST PIPES LAID IN WAIROA’S NEW SEWERAGE SCHEME

( S r ) WAIROA, May 20. The first pipes in the Wairoa Borough sewerage scheme were laid yesterday. The contractors, Messrs. Baillie Bros., Auckland, commenced operations at the edge of the river at which spot the sewerage is to be pumped into the stream. From there they are to work back towards the more populated areas. Given reasonable supplies of materials, such as pipes and cement, good progiess should be made with the work. The present contractors estimate that the completion of their portion of the work will take more than 12 months, but it is believed that at the end of two years the majority of the homes in Wairoa will be provided with the service.
