SECRET BALLOTS IN UNION AFFAIRS

CANBERRA. May 19,

The Leader of the Opposition, Mr. R. G. Menzies, in the House of Representatives gave notice of a private member’s bill providing for secret ballots in union affairs.

It will apply to organisations of employers as well as employees and will provide for secret ballots in the election of Office bearers and before any strike.

It is most unusual for the Leader of the Opposition to bring in a private member’s bill, and for such a bill to deal with high Government policy.
