BROADCASTING STATION
Sir, —Your report of my remarks at the last Borough Council meeting re the staffing of the local broadcasting station do not give the correct picture and this is probably due to my not having gone into more detail. Buth in fairness to the staff of 2XG I would like to say that I did not state that they, were* all males, nor that they were full-time employees. The reverse is the case. A certain minimum of staff is required to run a station of only for an hour a day and that minimum is all there is in Gisborne but it is equally true. I think, that the same staff could give more hours of broadcasting, which is wanted. I have since been advised that the foundations for the transmitter building have been laid, that it will be only a very short time till the building is finished and that the installation of the plant will not take long. It would appear that the N.B.S. has been most unfortunate with all its plans for Gisborne and that labour shortages have been almost the sole cause of all delays. H. F. WISE.
