TALK ON NEW TRIBUNAL SOUGHT BY P.S. ASSN.
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 8. A request for an early decision by the New Zealand Public Service Association cn the nomination of a representative on the proposed Government Service Tribunal has been made by the Prime Minister, Mr. P. Fraser. His letter named yesterday, April 7, as the date by which the association’s reply should be in his hands. The Public Service Association refuses to make any comment on. the issue, but is reported to have asked for another interview with the Prime Minister at which his letter can be discussed. This interview is expected to take place as soon as Mr. Fraser has the time available. The association, in a letter to the Prime Minister, has asked that the proposed tribunal be assured of the greatest possible degree of independence and integrity by having its own chairman unrelated to other tribunals, preferably a judge of the Supreme Court. It asks that the wage increases recently.granted by the Railways and Post and Telegraph tribunals be applied administratively to the public service.
