MR. R. W. M C VILLY DIES AT 88 YEARS OF AGE: LONG PUBLIC SERVICE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 7. The death of Mr. R. W. McVilly has occurred. He was 88 years of age. He was a former general manager of railways and was prominent in amateur sport and in the Masonic Order. Richard William McVilly was born in Otago in 1861 and received his early education in public schools of Otago and Southland. He entered the N.Z. Railways Department at the age of 18 and retired in 1924 after 45 years of service during the last five o£ which he was the general manager. He was a member of the Wellington City Council from 1927 to 1929. . . .

He was for 13 years the president of the N.Z. Amateur Athletic Association and a member of the council for many years, vice-president of the N.Z. Boxing Association and a member of the council of the N.Z. Amateur Rowing Association and chairman of the committee for a long period.
