PERSONAL
MR. G. H. MITCHELL has been selected as the New Zealand teacher to go to the United States for four months to study American schools. Mr. Mitchell is headmaster of West Lyttelton School.
MR. D. O. HASKELL, assistant district engineer, Wellington, who has been appointed to take charge of the Works Department, Napier, was associated ■with the construction of the NapierGisborne railway for many years and was in charge of the erection of the Mohaka viaduct. Between 1937 and 1947 he was attached to the head office of the Ministry of Works as aerodromes engineer, and during that period the major system of aerodromes and R.N.Z.A.F. airfields in New Zealand and the South Pacific was developed under his control. Mr. F. W. Young, his predecessor, has been transferred to Christchurch.
