MAORI DIES AFTER ALLEGED ASSAULT IN GLADSTONE RD.
Found by' Constable E. D. Jones lying on the footpath in Gladstone road opposite the Majestic Theatre about 10.30 pm. on February 22, a Maori was later removed to hospital. He died in the Wellington Hospital at 12.30 a.m. yesterday. He was Mr. Kuki Green, aged 43, married, of Mapou station, Tahunga. A companion with Mr- Green at the time he was found by the * constable alleged that the injured man had been struck on the chin by a passer-by. The police are anxious to contact anyone who saw anything of the incident which led to the striking of Mr. Green.
After being in the Cook Hospital for some time, Mr. Green was removed to the Wellington Hospital on March 3 and an operation later performed. He suffered a fractured skull in his fall.
