OFFICER’S ARM BROKEN BY GUN MISHAP
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Mar. 10. At sea for a fortnight's annual naval training, a R.N.Z.N.V.R. petty officer was injured aboard the cruiser Bellona during exercises oil Kaikoura yesterday morning. He is:
Petty Officer Richard William Howes, of 22 Ayre street, Christchurch.
He suffered a broken left forearm. He was applying pressure to the spring loader mechanism of a power-driven twin Oerlikon when the guns suddenly released the pressure, catching and crushing his arm. He was attended by the flotilla medical officer and will probably be put ashore at Akaroa when the squadron arrived this afternoon.
