MRS. K. PICKEN
OSITUARY
Widespread regret was expressed yesterday when news of the death of Mrs. Katharine Picken, wife of Mr. Andrew Picken, Rakauroa. circulated throughout the district. Mrs- Picken had been ailing for some time, and died peacefully early yesterday morning.
Born in Gisborne, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Robb, well known early settlers in the district. She was educated in Gisborne, principally at the Mangapapa School, and lived with her parents until her marriage to Mr. Picken. Mr. and Mrs. Picken made their home in the hillcountrv area, where the first-named had taken up land in the sub-division of Run 47.
Throughout her life Mrs. Picken was noted for her kindliness and keen inter est in community efforts. Her talents ns a gardener were widely recognised, and her home was a centre of social activity until her health failed a year or two ago. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, Miss Mary Picken, Opotiki. and Miss Dorothy Picken, Palmerston North. One brother, Mr. Frank Robb. Manutuke, and four sisters. Miss Elsie Robb, Auckland, Mrs. H. G. Thorpe, Hawke s Bay. Miss Dorothy Robb. Hawke's Bay. and Mrs. R, Ward, Taupo, also survive.
