Attlee And German Leaders Discuss Closer Link With W. Europe
(9.45 a.m.) LONDON, Mar. 7. The Prime Minister. Mr. C. R. Attlee, has returned to London after his weekend visit to Berlin. He received a silver plate engraved with the city’s coat-of-arms from Berliners. The main subjects which Mr. Attlee discussed at a conference with leading Berlin politicians were increasing the airlift, closer political and economic ties between Berlin and the Western zones, and the introduction of a western' mark as the only legal tender in the city’s western sectors.
The Premier of Lower Saxony, Dr. Hinsrich Kope, said other questions discussed were the future position of Germany in Western Europe, defraying the occupation costs and trusteeship for the iron and steel industries.
