Coast Road Bus Mishap
When llie king-pin of one of the front wheels of a school bus broke on a recent morning, over. 20 children were tossed in a heap and sprinkled with broken glass as the bus ran up a bank and then toppled on to its side on the East Coast State highway between Hukuwai and Tirohanga. Apart from bruises and minor cuts, the passengers suffered no injury, but they had a narrow escape from a serious accident. On the outer side of the road where tlie mishap occurred the bank descends steeply for a considerable distance, and had the vehicle swung over the bank the consequences would have been much worse. Mr. A. 11. Hollard. driver of the bus. was uninjured, and has been commended for prompt action which prevented a panic among the children after the vehicle came to rest on its side.
